This particular design is of the German MP40 submachine gun. Designed in 1938, the MP40 drew on previous submachine gun designs but was cheaper and easier to manufacture. It was widely adopted into service, seeing action on all fronts of the European theatre of operations. By the end of the war, over 1.1 million MP40s had been produced, making it the most widely used German submachine gun of the conflict.
